Root began his career as a right-handed opener and an occasional off-spinner. He then shifted to the middle order, where he spent most of his time. Following completion of his studies in the fundamentals at Sheffield Collegiate, Root began his career as a football player in 2007 with the Yorkshire Second Team. As a result of the successes he had while serving with the second squad, he was moved up to the first. During the match between England’s Under-19 side and Bangladesh, Smith was singled out as the competition’s best player.
In addition to that, in 2010, he was chosen to represent his country in the Under-19 World Cup of Cricket. The year after that, he played in the Championship for the very first time, and it was against Worcestershire. Joe Root will represent Great Britain and Ireland in the 2019 Cricket World Cup after being chosen to take part in the tournament. An outstanding beginning to the season was had by Root, who scored three half-centuries in the first six matches of the competition. In 2012, Joe Root competed in his first Test match, which was held against India. During the opening innings of the tournament, he hit 73 home runs while facing 229 total balls. Following that, he was chosen to participate in the expedition to New Zealand in 2013. Only 88 runs were driven in by him by the time the season was through. After that, the New Zealand national rugby team went on tour in England. He struck his maiden Test century during this series and finished with 243 runs overall.

In December of 2012, Joe Root made his debut in a Twenty20 International against India. In 2013, he was chosen to participate in the Twenty20 International series against Australia. During the first game of the series, he was not taken out of the game despite scoring 90 runs. Joe Root was selected to be a member of the England team that will compete in the 2016 World Twenty20. In the history of the ICC World T20, he is just the third player to ever achieve the feat of scoring fifty runs and taking a wicket in the championship match. During the 2016-2017 seasons, he was an integral member of the team that faced off against India. He scored in the 30s or above in each of the three games that comprised the series.
