Three inseparable best friends who, after college, fell out with each other due to their different views on relationships try to find their way back to each other.
The movie ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ directed by Farhan Akhtar (also famous for acting in movies like
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Toofan, and more), was based on Akhtar’s diary detailing his trips to Mumbai and New York City and a story by a friend of his. It was one of the first films shot in sync sound and premiered on 10 August 2001. The movie had been a success in the metropolitan areas due to its city-oriented storyline.
The Storyline of the Movie ‘Dil Chahta Hai
The film introduces Akash (Aamir Khan), Sameer (Saif Ali Khan, seen in
Tanhaji), and Sid (Akshaye Khanna, last seen in Drishyam 2) as best friends in college. After graduating, the three friends are forced to plan for their life ahead.
Akash’s parents want him to handle their family business abroad, Sameer’s parents want him to marry their friend’s daughter, and Sid is still trying to figure out his painting career. Out of the three, Sid is the first one to fall in love with her neighbor Tara (Dimple Kapadia) despite her age.
When he talks about his feelings towards Tara to Sameer and Akash, the two, unable to understand, advise Sid not to pursue Tara anymore, but Sid refuses. Akash refuses to take Sid seriously and continues to joke about Tara causing Sid to slap him. A furious Akash then leaves for Sydney to work on his family’s business.
The three friends stopped contacting each other after that and fell out. The movie continues with the three falling in love with their love interests until Akash returns to India and tries to mend their friendship.
