Sima Taparia (a matchmaker from Mumbai) is followed on her mission to locate the perfect spouse for a mix of South Asian people in India and the United States in Indian Matchmaking, an eight-episode documentary series. While the show provided an accurate depiction of what an “arranged marriage” is—a simple introduction—what follows reveals some unsettling truths about South Asian culture: a clear preference for girls who are “tall, slim, trim, fair, and adaptive”; a glaring disparity in how women and men are expected to approach finding a partner; and uncomfortable judgement of others based on their social standing, origin, caste, religion, and color.
Indian Matchmaking: Storyline The 1st episode describes the matchmaking and introduces Aparna who is 34 years old and a lawyer living in New Jersey in the USA. She is a self-made girl who loves to travel and she traveled to 40 countries in the last 2 years. She welcomes the no. 1 Mumbai matchmaker Sima who asks Aparna if she has been on a date before and Aparna replied She had tried many dating apps but she never got a chance to go on a Date. Then Aparna shows her house to Sima. Sima asks Aparna what kind of person he likes to marry. Aparna tells Sima she likes men who have a good sense of humour.
In the next scene Harsh the groom is introduced. He is a chef and loves to party with friends.Sima meets Harsh parents and talks about Harsh past. Harsh parents tell her that they have rejected more than 150 profiles of girls. The story continues and Aparna and Harsh start dating in Mumbai.
