An upcoming thriller by Sriram Raghavan.
Don’t leave your seats and get ready to experience a thriller like no other. With crazy twists and turns, be ready to bite your nails as the upcoming roller coaster ride is going to be worth it. Sriram Raghavan last directed Andhadhun in 2018 and is also famous for some other thriller movies like Badlapur , and Agent Vinod .
Raghavan saw L’Accordeur and was inspired by the story. His film received positive reviews, and The Times of India said While the first half is replete with a blend of palpitating tension, suspense, and comedy in classic Raghavan style, the second half slumps a bit. The plot gets a tad chaotic and convoluted as opposed to its terrific build-up. The long-winded conversation between characters slackens the pace and eases out the tension a bit, which you don’t expect at that point. However, a spectacular climax makes up for it.

Who Acquired the Digital Rights of Merry Christmas?
According to a source, Netflix has acquired the digital rights. A source said that: “Yes, Netflix has shelled out upwards of Rs. 60 cr to acquire the digital rights of Merry Christmas . This is a decent amount since the film is not a direct OTT release. Instead, it will first hit screens on December 15, 2023, followed by its OTT release eight weeks later.”
Continuing further, the source adds, “While this deal has certainly racked well for Merry Christmas movie and its makers, the question remains why such an astronomical amount. Besides this OTT deal, trade has also been buzzing for the satellite rights of the project. Though the satellite rights are yet to be sold, apparently the Rs. 60+ cr price fetched by the digital rights has the industry talking about its satellite rights as well.”

What the Lead Stars/Director Have To Say About The Movie?
As the movie is around the corner, the stars have started sharing the posters of their film. Katrina Kaif shared a poster and wrote a caption “We decided to cut short the wait for the Christmas cheer! Merry Christmas stars Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif for the first time in a Tamil film. Releasing in cinemas near you on 15th December 2023…” also a Hindi text was written on taxi on the new poster “Raat jitni sangeen hogi, subah utni rangeen hogi (The more serious the night, the more colourful will be the morning).”
Kaif wrote a caption “New beginnings. BACK ON SET with director Sriram Raghavan for Merry Christmas! I’ve always wanted to work with Sriram Sir. He is a master when it comes to narratives that showcase thrillers and it’s an honor to be directed by him… Super excited to be teaming up with Vijay Sethupathi for this one produced by Ramesh Taurani and Sanjay Routray.”
After that, she posted a picture that stated, “Work In Progress.”
Furthermore, during an interview, Raghavan expressed why he is casting both stars together. He said “When you see the film, you’ll know. The story is such that I just needed a very off-beat pairing or casting and I was trying various combinations and permutations and I happened to meet Vijay at a festival in Melbourne and I’d seen some of his films. I just felt, ‘What if I do this odd combination’ and it has got its curiosity value, I hope.”
He added, “I wanted to make a Tamil film also since Vijay is a very acclaimed actor in the South and I thought it will be just good for us to make two versions of this film.” They are broadly the same, 95 percent they are the same, but of course, language changes and some characters also I wanted to change so that it doesn’t look like a dubbed film.”
What is Merry Christmas Release Date?
Earlier, the Merry Christmas movie release date was expected on 23rd December 2023, which is prior some days before Christmas but the date shifted to 15th December. The lead cast said that the film is releasing on 15th December because of a small surprise.
Also, the date of the film has disappointed Karan Johar as the movie clashes with Siddharth Malhotra’s upcoming Movie Yodha , in which he will be seen in the lead role. He posted on social media, “Clashing on a date without the courtesy of a phone call is hopefully not the way forward for the studios and producers …. If we don’t stand united in these tough and challenging theatrical days, then calling us a fraternity is futile.” Furthermore, Katrina shared a new poster with the caption
“We decided to cut short the wait for the Christmas cheer! #MerryChristmas releasing in theatres near you ON 15th DECEMBER 2023.”
While Dharma Productions ended up writing, “Re-fueled and ready to soar! #YODHA – the first action film of the franchise headlined by Sidharth Malhotra and directed by debutant duo Sagar Ambre & Pushkar Ojha – lands in cinemas on 15th DECEMBER, 2023. The film also stars Disha Patani & Raashii Khanna in lead roles.”
So, the Merry Christmas movie release date is 15th December 2023.
