Sharmila Tagore and Saif Ali Khan recalled the toughest phase of their lives when Saif decided to part ways with Amrita Singh.
A royal mother-and-son duo graced the latest episode of the popular chat show, Koffee with Karan hosted by Karan Johar. The veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and the Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan recalled numerous beautiful and depressing moments of their lives. From Saif’s childhood and teenage days to his marriage, Sharmila decoded everything on the show.
The duo even talked about the depressing phase when Saif parted ways with his ex-wife Amrita Singh. While having a conversation about marriage, Saif revealed that he tied the knot with Amrita secretly and informed her mother later because she didn’t give him approval. Additionally, he disclosed that Sharmila broke down into tears when she got to know about it.

On the 10th episode of KWK 8, Sharmila Tagore and Saif Ali Khan had a hearty and honest conversation with Karan Johar. Saif recalled that his marriage news with Amrita proved heartbreaking for his mother; she cried a lot. Sharmila said, “It’s a good thing to share ‘every aspect of your life’ with your parents, as they are the ones who bring you up.”
Further, Saif revealed that his mother was the first person with whom he shared the news of separating from Amrita. Responding to that, Sharmila told him that she was with him if this was your last decision.
Moreover, Sharmila disclosed that it was not a harmonious time for the whole family because they not only lost Amrita but Saif’s children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan as well. She stated, “When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice, but I tried. But that’s water under the bridge, she needed time to cool down.”
