Jitu Bhaiya from the Panchayat Web series is returning to season 3.
Since the inception of two seasons of Panchayat on the OTT platform, the series has garnered a huge base audience and their love for the drama-comedy sequence. Subsequently, the second season of the series was released this year in May, after an interval of 2 long years. In the second season, the scope of the narrative broadened, and quite a few characters were also incorporated.
Although it has been around 7 months since the Panchayat season 2 premiered on Amazon Prime Videos, the chatter about the show continues to take place among the fan base we referred to earlier in the article. It’s only obvious thereafter when the next season of the series will air. And there is a strong reason for the next season to be released. We say this with a lot of faith because of two unavoidable reasons. One is that the previous season left us with a stunning but inevitable cliffhanger. The latter being the director Deepak Kumar Mishra himself confirming the making of the third season.
Statements From the Panchayat Team Members
However, there has been no official release from the cast members or The Viral Fever (popularly known as TVF) regarding the whereabouts of the third season. Deepak Kumar Mishra recently confirmed with The Indian Express that there are plans for the third season, but they are not rushing into it. In the interview, Mishra told The Indian Express, ‘Season 3, of course, aayega but time lagega. (There will be a new season, but it will take time)
When probed about the love tangent between Jitendra (Abhishek) and Sanvikaa (Rinki), he added that season 3 would slowly see that happening (love and marriage). Elaborating further on the same, he said, “just like the nature of the village, everything will happen at a slow pace” (dheere dheere sab hoga).
As far as the release date of the third season of Panchayat is concerned, that is a difficult task. Going by the modus operandi of the announcement of the previous season, they only announced after the season was done being filmed. There are, therefore, high chances of the same pattern being followed this time around. However, one can keep their expectations of the third season’s release sometime around 2024.
As far as the star cast is concerned, the protagonists of the series are expected to remain the same, with Jitendra Kumar returning as Abhishek Tripathi. Neena Gupta, like in the previous two episodes, will star as Manju Devi, the pradhan of the village. Similarly, her reel husband, played by Raghuvir Yadav, who basically acts in the pradhan’s stead, will return too.
The detailed cast of the series is as follows- Jitendra Kumar as Abhishek Tripathi, Chandan Roy as Vikas, Raghuvir Yadav as Brij Bhushan Dubey, Faisal Malik as Prahalad Pandey, Neena Gupta as Manju Devi, Sanvikaa as Rinki, Sunita Rajwar as Kranti Devi, Ashok Pathak as Vinod (or Binod. Take your pick), Pankaj Jha as MLA Chandra Kishore Singh and Durgesh Kumar as Bhushan aka Banrakas.
Panchayat Season 1 Plot Overview
Talking about the plot of the first season, we see Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar), who is an engineering graduate landing himself in a remote village in Uttar Pradesh that goes by the name of Phulera. The underlying reason for him to become the secretary of the panchayat in Phulera is said to be the lack of job opportunities in the city he is from. This could well be a subtle social dig at the current state of affairs with regard to unemployment in India.
The narrative moves at a very sluggish pace, with Abhishek trying to settle down in the village and adapting to the life and ways of Phulera. While Abhishek works as the secretary by day, he also prepares for the CAT exam by night to qualify for a better job opportunity. The preparation falls short, however, and the frequent power cuts are to be held responsible for the setback. Relax! That was just a punch.
Panchayat Season 2 Plot Overview
Cut to the second season; we see Abhishek feeling more comfortable around the people of Phulera, especially the family of Pradhan ji, Vikas, and Praladh. He is also seen taking an active part in the village politics and the developments that occur in the village consequently. The second season also deals with several problems that the villagers face in their day-to-day lives. Not specific to season 2, the series also very subtly focuses on the issue of women’s empowerment and goes on to display how serious the government is with respect to the implementation of the same. Another issue that the makers were keen to address was hygiene and the importance of having a toilet within the households.
The curtains to this season fall on a cliffhanger when Rinki reads out a letter to Manju Devi, wherein Abhishek is transferred to another place.
Expected Plot of Panchayat Season 3
Let’s look at the makers’ role for season 3 and the points to build the story. We find that the major direction in which the plot will flow would be Abhishek’s transfer, the love angel between Abhishek and Rinki, and the tussle between MLA Chandra Kishore Singh and the duo of Pradhan-Abhishek.
When asked about the success of the series in a recent interview, Abhishek stated, “The simplicity of ‘Panchayat’ distinguishes it. People may identify with every character in ‘Panchayat.’ I can identify with these events.”
In the same interview, when asked about making the climax of the second season dramatic, he stated that the producers of the show were seeking such an ending that would keep the interest level of the audience seemingly high.
In a nutshell, Panchayat is a must-watch web series that is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Videos. It has 16 episodes in all (both seasons included). The run time for each episode is about 40 minutes, which is also considered the optimum length of an episode on the OTT.
Season three, as discussed in the article, is not coming out anytime soon, which surely adds to the angst of the fan base the series is catering to. However, by the time that good news blesses our kind ears, what we can do is watch the series again and keep ourselves updated with the happenings in Phulera. So what are you guys waiting for?
