“Premam” meaning “Love,” is a 2015’s Malayalam romantic drama movie that was written and directed by Alphonse Puthren. It was produced by Anwar Rasheed and featured famous actors like Nivin Pauly and Sai Pallavi in the major roles. The movie was a huge blockbuster and was given the status of a cult by critics.
This love story received a warm welcome from the audience nationwide and an IMDb rating of 8.3/10. With a budget of 4 crores, Premium managed to earn 60 crores and place in the list of the top 25 Malayalam movies of the decade and the top 10 romantic Malayalam movies of all time.
The Storyline of the Movie “Premam” Premam Plot 1
The movie follows the story of George David (Nivin Pauly), a teenager who studies at the Holy Spirit Convent College, Aluva. He is attracted to one of his schoolmates Mary (Anupama Parameswaran), who is also the prettiest girl in the school. His school and home were situated in a small village, Uliyannoor- Thottakkattukara, in the region of Aluva, Kerala. George, along with his friends Shambu and Koya, tries to pursue Mary but is afraid of her father, who is very strict and often ends up beating the guys who chase his daughter. Furthermore, Mary has numerous suitors.
George makes many attempts to get closer to Mary, but he fails every time. Later, he gets to know that she is in a relationship with someone else, and that leaves him heartbroken. The guy she loves is also George. She asks George David to help her set a date without her family knowing. In the end, George is left alone, but he somehow excels in his studies as he has nothing better to do.
Premam Plot 2
In the second phase of life, we see George in Union Christian College, Aluva. During the time of ragging, George meets Malar (Sai Pallavvi ), who is a new lecturer in their college. She is from a Tamil background and shows interest in George, and their relationship blooms. Malar has tremendous dancing skills, and this impresses him more. But, a teacher of the college, Vimal Sir, also tries to woo her with the help of the PT teacher, Shivan.
But later, Malar visits her family and meets an accident. Due to this, she loses her family and thus leaves her job as well. She remembers nothing about George and gets married to her cousin Arivazhagan; this leaves George heartbroken again.
Premam Plot 3
Now, the story jumps to when George is 30 and owns a café in partnership with his friend Jojo. Here he meets 22-year-old Celine (Madonna Sebastian) and feels a connection with her when he gets to know that she used to walk with Mary. Though there is a huge age difference, he falls for her.
When George decides to propose to Celine, she is about to get engaged to a cocaine addict, Roney Varghese. Roney disrespects Celine, and thus the wedding is called off. After seeing their bad behavior of Roney, George beats him with his friends. And, now, finally, George marries Celine.
Malar is present as a guest and has regained her memory, but she doesn’t reveal anything to George as she sees him happy with Celin.
