Swades: We the People, which is translated as “Homeland”, I don’t think there would be anyone who hasn’t heard of this incredible movie by none other than Shah Rukh Khan aka King Khan. The actor is known for his charm and romantic movies. There’s hardly any movie by Shah Rukh Khan that wasn’t a blockbuster of its time.

Swades – The Storyline The story revolves around Mohan Bhargava who is an NRI working as a project manager at NASA, United States of America. Mohan stayed in the US after his studies after his parents passed away in a car accident. While he stays in the USA, he keeps on worrying about Kaveri Amma who was his caretaker in his childhood. After his parent’s death, she moved to an old age center in Delhi and eventually lost touch with Mohan.
After a while, Mohan takes an off from work and travels to India to meet Kaveri Amma, when he reaches the old age center where she was supposed to be he learns that she moved out of there one year ago and is in a village named Charanpur. When he reaches the village, Kaveri Amma tells him that his childhood friend Geeta brought her here to take care of her. The village they are in is quite divided by the caste system while Geeta is someone who believes in women’s empowerment and this is what attracts Mohan towards her a little more.
After a while, Mohan visits a small village named Kodi to collect money from a man named Haridas. Upon reaching the village he finds out that Haridas’s condition is way too bad and that he isn’t even able to provide meals to his family due to the caste system in India. This is the time when Mohan realized that there are many such villages as well that face the same issue. He returns with a heavy heart and now the plot of the movie formulates.
