Thappad is a movie about a couple, Amrita Sandhu, played by Taapsee Pannu, recently seen in Blurr was living a happy married life with Vikram Sabharwal (Pavail Gulati) until one night. Being slapped by her husband was not something she could overlook. This movie stresses that abuse can never be justified and should never be taken lightly, even if “it’s just a slap”, and that no one has a right to slap anyone with an IMDb Rating of 7/10. Soon after its release, this movie has taken over the hearts of many and continues to do so.
The Storyline of the Movie ‘Thappad’ Amrita and Vikram have been living a happy married life, or so it looks. Amrita, a housewife, is oblivious to the cracks in her relationship until Amrita and Vikram throw a party to celebrate Vikram’s promotion. But the party soon turned into chaos.
During the party, Vikram is informed that his promotion was hindered and given to a junior who Vikram believes was not experienced enough for the job, resulting in Vikram angrily causing a scene. In hopes of calming her husband, Amrita approaches him, and he slaps her. Even though it was his fault, we do not see him feeling apologetic but instead simply classifying it as an accident.
Amrita is traumatized and decides to leave. The movie continues with her filing for divorce despite everyone asking her to overlook the matter and that it’s just a single slap. The film also consists of snippets of Amrita’s maid, Sunita, who is also a victim of domestic abuse, and the life of a single mom Shivani, Amrita’s neighbor.
The movie ends with a sliver of hope where after getting divorced, Vikram approaches Amrita and promises her to work on himself and become a man worthy of her.
