The movie ‘Uri: A Surgical Strike’ directed by Aditya Dhar, is a Hindi-language military action film. The movie is based on the true events of the Indian retaliation to the Uri Attack that happened in 2016. The movie stars Vicky Kaushal, Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina, Kirti Kulhari, and (Paresh Rawal Last seen in
Shehzada) and was released in 2019, but its announcement was made by Ronnie Screwvala in September 2017.
The Storyline of The Movie ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’
The film starts with the NSCN(K) militants’ ambush in June 2015 on the convoy of the Indian Army Troops in Chandel Manipur, and in retaliation, the Indian Military’s Unit led by Major Vihaan Singh Shergill (Vicky Kaushal Last seen in
Sardar Udham and Raazi), infiltrate and attack the northeast militants.
The unit succeeds in killing the leader who was responsible for the 2015 ambush and returns home. After this mission, at a party held by the Prime Minister for the unit’s success, Vihaan asks for an early retirement to take care of his mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s. But instead of his retirement, he was offered a desk job near his home, to which Vihaan agreed. While Vihaan is settling down at his new job, his brother-in-law, Major Karan Kashyap (Mohit Raina Last seen in
Shiddat and Bhaukaal Season 1), returns to his base in Uri, Jammu, and Kashmir.
The movie then continues with the third chapter, “Bleed India with Thousand Cuts”, which shows the attack that happened on 18 September 2016, where four armed militants sneak into the Indian Brigade Headquarters at Uri, Jammu, and Kashmir, at dawn, wearing the Indian Military Uniform. The militants killed 19 sleeping soldiers in their tents.
Though the militants were killed by the military, Karan, too, had died due to a grenade explosion. Vihaan and his family were devasted and heartbroken at Karan’s death. When Vihaan hears about the Indian army planning a surgical strike, he wishes to lead the operation.
His request is granted to him, and soon the planning for the strike begins. The date set for the strike is 28 September, and “The Strike” soon follows.
