Kantara 2 Plot The premise of Kantara 2 has been kept under wraps, but the makers have confirmed that Kantara 2 will be a prequel to what we saw earlier. Rishab Shetty, who has written and directed the critically acclaimed and successful Kannada movie, stated in an interview that ‘what you have seen is actually Part 2, and Part 1 will come next year’.
The director further clarified that the film has been divided into two parts as the history of Kantara has more depth to it and requires in-depth research to reveal more about the folklore, which is why it is still early to reveal anything about the film.
About Kantara Kantara, which translates to a mystical forest, tells a story about three timelines: 1847, the 1970s, and the 1990s. The story of Kantara is set against the backdrop of a village in south Karnataka, where a king gave a vast portion of his land to the villagers in exchange for a holy stone 150 years ago. Panjurli Daiva warns the king that his family and successors should keep their word and not reclaim the land.
In the 1970s, the King’s descendant is filled with greed and desperate to reclaim what he believes is rightfully his. Moreover, he asks a Bhoota Kola performer, who is possessed by Panjurli, to make the locals hand over the land to him. However, the performer refuses to do so and warns the descendant that he will die vomiting blood and that the performer will vanish if he is possessed by Panjurli.
As fate would have it, the descendant dies, vomiting blood, and the performer vanishes, never to be seen again. Fast forward to 1990, and Murali, a forest officer, is tasked with converting the villagers’ land into a forest reserve. A clash of wills unfolds as Shiva, a Kambala athlete and the son of the vanished Bhoota Kola performer, stands as a barrier against Murali’s efforts.
As the narrative progresses, the film’s narrative navigates through the delicate bonds of friendship and love, with Shiva’s growing affection for his friend Leela adding layers of depth to the story.
Furthermore, amidst the chaos, the story explores the trauma of Shiva as he remembers the haunting memories of his father’s disappearance and the burden of his ancestral heritage.
Kantara offers a cinematic journey where the narrative comes full circle with an enthralling and visually appealing climax scene, adrenaline-fueled clashes, and the traditional dance of Bhoota Kola adds life to the film.
The film became a big commercial success and emerged as the second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time after K.G.F. Chapter 2 , which was released in the same year.
