The Kashmir Files- The Storyline ‘The Kashmir Files’ shows the situation surrounding the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990. The plot of the movie is focused on the journey to Kashmir of a young student of JNU named Krishna Pandit. He was made to believe by his grandfather, Pushkar Nath, that his parents were killed in an accident. He was even influenced by a JNU professor Radhika Menon that the secessionist movement in Kashmir is akin to India’s Freedom Movement.
Furthermore, he came to know about the circumstances of his parent’s death, only after reaching Kashmir with the ashes of his dead grandfather. The film represents the events surrounding the exodus, in which it is said that thousands of Kashmiri Hindus were massacred, women were raped and children were shot. Some of the displaced families are living as refugees till today.
