The name of the Movie is said to be a metaphor that says the youth of our nation is similar to that of matchsticks, which can either be used to light a dark path or blow up our nation’s corrupt politics.

The Storyline of the Movie ‘Maachis’ The story takes place near the assassination of the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, in the State of Punjab. With her assassination by her Sikh bodyguard, chaos followed.
All Sikhs were beaten cruelly by the police force who had wished to catch the assassins. People were being picked and put in jail without any classification.
And among these Sikhs was the family of our protagonist, who were facing the same troubles. When one-day, Inspector Vohra (Kanwaljit Singh) approaches Jaswant Singh’s (Raj Zutshi) and Veerandra’s (Tabu) houses in search of Jimmy. When asked about Jimmy’s whereabouts, Jaswant Singh, aka Jassi, leads the Inspector to his dog, claiming that his name, too, was Jimmy. Angered by this prank, Inspector Vohra puts Jassi in jail.
When Jassi returns home after a few days, he appears poorly beaten and visibly wounded. Seeing her girlfriend’s brother in such a state, Kripal Singh (Chandrachur Singh) promises to avenge Jassi. He cannot seek any help from the law, leading him to be involved with a militant group that fights against the system dividing the clueless public in the name of religion.
Jassi starts training with them, and the story revolves around his time in the military group. The film ends with Veerandra and Jassi committing suicide, with scenes where the former is lying “peacefully” on his prison bed and the latter sitting with a bleeding nose and head held high.
