Impressed with Diljit’s performance in Jogi And want to relive the history again? Then, watch Punjab 1984, to know what was the condition of Sikhs in the state of Punjab after the emergency. Spoiler Alert: Diljit will make you cry again.
Director Anurag Singh once tried to narrate the pain of 1984 by making a film on a serious issue like ‘Punjab 1984’ which was released on 27 June 2014. Nothing has brought the pain of that black era and the Sikh genocide and its aftermath. Thanks to Kirron Kher’s experience and the good acting of Diljit Dosanjh and Sonam Bajwa, this sensitive film was a hint that the time of good films in Punjabi cinema was just a start and after that, it gave so many great serious films.
The Storyline of the Movie “Punjab 1984”
The story of the film revolves around a mother Sukhwant Kaur (Kiran Kher) who sits outside her village police station every day. Inspector Deep Singh Rana (Pawan Malhotra) of the police station often asks him to run away. But she is there to find his son, Shivjit (Diljit Dosanjh) who is actually arrested by police just because of the vengeance of one of their influential relatives.
In fact, Sukhwant Kaur’s son is picked up one day by the police without any reason and does not leave him back. Sukhwant along with her son’s friend (Vansh Bharadwaj) approaches an NGO for her application. Going to the NGO, Sukhwant gives complete information related to his son and such is the entry of Shivjit Singh (Daljit Dosanjh) on the screen.
Diljit then falls into the trap of terrorism to take revenge for his father’s death and ruined family. But, he soon realizes that he has chosen the wrong path, and the real face of political and some religious leaders is disclosed, showing influential people using youth like Shivjit for their own benefit. The end however is the most saddening part of the entire movie.
