Directed by A.R. Murugadoss, ‘Sarkar’ is a story about a businessman who resigns from his company and sets out on a mission to correct the extremely flawed and corrupt political system in his state and the country.
A.R. Rahman’s songs, stellar performances by Vijay (Keerthy Suresh last seen in Mahanati ) last and the entire cast, and a strong underlying message make ‘Sarkar’ a must-watch film that must be added to your watchlist ASAP!!
The Storyline of The Movie ‘Sarkar’ Sundar Ramaswamy, an international business tycoon based in America, flew all the way to Chennai to cast his vote for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election. However, on reaching there, he finds out that somebody has already cast his vote! He decides to approach the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission and demand a stay on the election result so that he can cast his vote and the fraudster’s vote can be annulled.
Going through the legal process, he discovers that he is not the only one; various others have been facing similar issues. Various incidents in the movie set into motion the entry of this corporate monster into the world of politics when he decides to contest the election as an individual candidate.
Sundar faces strong opposition from Masilamani, ex-CM of Tamil Nadu. Nonetheless, he managed to garner massive support from the masses who were initially reluctant to support him because of his corporate background. Throughout the movie, Sundar tries to draw a parallel between running a business and a state to justify his entry into politics.
On seeing Masilamani losing support from the people, his daughter Komalavalli flies from Canada to help her father and his party. She tries to tarnish Sundar’s image by painting him as a greedy and power-hungry man.
She tries everything one can think of to gather maximum votes for the party. Komalavalli goes as far as killing her father to gather sympathy votes!
Things go around in Sundar’s favor on election day when he generates a Twitter thread accusing himself of corruption and that he has hidden black money in various locations. This leads to people digging up random locations to find the money.
In the process, Muthukumar’s dead body is discovered. Muthukumar was a journalist who tried to unravel Masilamani’s corruption but was killed by Masilmani.
Cherry on the top was Komalavalli’s mother announcing on live television that her daughter killed his father for sympathy votes. The Movie ends with Sundar winning the election and with Komalavalli’s arrest.
