The Pakistani movie “The Legend of Maula Jatt” is the most anticipated Punjabi language period film directed and written by renowned director Bilal Lashari and produced by Ammara Hikmat and Dr. Asad Jamil Khan. The movie is a remake of the cult classic movie Maula Jatt , which was produced in 1979. The movie stars Fawad Khan who is last seen in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil , is in the male lead role and Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan who were seen opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees , and Humaima Malik in other pivotal roles. The movie hit theaters on 13 October 2022. It is said to be the most high-budget movie in Pakistan.
Storyline of the Movie “The Legend of Maula Jatt” The movie begins with Jeeva Natt and his family, who are attacking the haveli of Sardar Jatt. They overpowered the forces of Sardar Jatt and killed him and his wife. But the son of Sardar Jatt, Maula, witnesses the murder of his parents and survives the attack. She is raised by a woman named Daani. Later, Maula starts learning wrestling from the coach of Danni’s son, Mooda. Maula proves to be a great student.
Though Maula flourishes as a wrestler, he still faces night terrors from his past, as he doesn’t has a clear memory of his parents and what happened to them.
Now, Maakha Natt, the son of Jeeva Natt, harasses the village people and molests the ladies Then, we see a girl crying for help because she is being chased by Maakha Natt, the brother of Noori Nat, but no one comes forward to help her, and then you see Maula’s bhabi (sis-in-law) calling him. Maula then comes and stops Maakha, but he opposes.
Then, Maula’s friend Moodha beats up Maakha and scars his nose. Maula advises Maakha to marry the girl he has dishonored and marry off his sister to her brother. As the girl has no family, he asks Maakha to marry off his sister to Moodha.
Maakha plots revenge to kill Maula, and his entire clan stands with him. However, Maula defeats Maakha and sends him back after humiliating him.
But, a few days later, Noori Natt comes out of prison and decides to fight Maula Jatt. He visits his village and kills Moodha while searching for Maula.
And then, the entire fight starts between two local powers, Maula and Noori Natt. The movie is based on the folktale of Maula Jatt. This will be my take on gandasa films which are blamed for the death of Lollywood. I think the gandasa genre was a missed opportunity for Pakistani cinema, and what better choice to utilize it then by paying homage to the cult classic Maula Jatt. “
