Diljit is always known for his fun-loving, happy-go-lucky personality. But recently he has been in the headline for his apparently controversial statement. Diljit was one of the artists who were invited to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2023.
People were excited about the performance and shared well wishes and supported him.
But soon, one of his Punjabi comments during the performance went viral for all the wrong reasons.
During his second show, the singer said “Eh mere Punjabi bhain bhraawan layi, mere desh da jhanda laike khadi aa kudi, eh mere desh layi, negativity ton bacho, music saareyan da saanjha ” (This girl is carrying my country’s flag, this is for my country and everyone. Music belongs to all, don’t use it to spread hate). He was pointing at a girl in the audience who carried the tricolor flag.
Soon the netizens went feral and objected that the singer has disrespected the Indian flag. Diljit took to Twitter to clarify the matter and stated that his statement has been misinterpreted and requested people to stop spreading fake news.
His Tweet roughly translates to: “I said this is my country’s flag, this is for my country… which means this performance is for my country. If you don’t know Punjabi then Google it. Because Coachella is a big music festival, people from all over the world come there that’s why music is for everyone. Someone should learn how to twist a good thing from you… Google this too ”
