When an NRI doctor returns to India, he is dragged by his parents to meet a girl and her family for marriage. With a determination to decline the marriage offer, he goes along with his parents but ends up falling in love with a girl who already has a lover.

The film is a romantic comedy and has received many positive criticisms from the public since its release.

The Storyline of the Movie ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ The movie starts with Manoj Kumar Sharma, a.k.a Manu (R. Madhavan), an NRI doctor, returning to India. As soon as Manu returned, he and his family set out to meet girls that his family had shortlisted for him.
One of the girls shortlisted was Tanu (Kangana Ranaut), who lived in Kanpur. As soon as the family lands in Kanpur, Manu gets surrounded by local goons and is physically abused. When Pappi (Deepak Dobrial) finds Manu, he suggests Manu keep calm and first meet the girl. When Manu meets Tanu, he finds her sleeping in her room, but Manu falls in love just seeing her sleeping peacefully and says yes to his parents.
The two families decide to go on a trip before the marriage. During the trip, Tanu tells Manu about her not wanting to marry and that she already has someone she loves. Manu then decides to take the blame on himself and denies getting married to Tanu. After some time has passed, Manu puts forward his wishes to not get married for some time. Before returning to London, Manu, and Pappi attend their friends’ marriage in Punjab, where they coincidentally meet Tanu.
At the wedding, both Tanu and Manu enjoy each other’s company, and Tanu too slowly starts liking Manu. But as the movie moves on, the entry of Tanu’s previous love interest brings trouble to Tanu’s and Manu’s relationship.
