The Storyline of The Movie ‘Vaathi’ Set in the 90s in a small town on the borders of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, Sozhavaram, Vaathi is the story of Balmurugan. He is a third-grade junior lecturer who opposes the privatization of and profit-making agenda of educational institutions.
The institute at which he teaches, Thirupathi Coaching Centre strikes a deal with the government to send teachers to various government schools as a helping hand to save them from failing.
However, the owner of the coaching institute and president of the private schools’ association, Srinivasa Thirupathi, sends third-grade teachers that fail to meet the requirements, are substandard and are inferior to the schools.
He does this to ensure that the government doesn’t implement a fee regulation bill. As that might get in the way of his profit-making since Srinivasa runs financial institutions, not for imparting education but for the sole reason of earning financial benefits.
Balamurugan is sent as a full-time mathematics teacher to a government school in Sozhavaram. Unlike other teachers at government schools, Balamuruga makes sure that students are regular in attending the classes and wants to teach them in a manner that is interesting and easily comprehended by most students.
In a short span of time, he gained popularity and became the most-loved teacher.
Students join him on his noble mission against Thirupathi’s philosophy of ‘Zero fees, zero education; more fees, more education’ .
When Thirupathi becomes aware of Balamurugan’s plan to make his students score first division and be eligible for good colleges, he is enraged and challenges him to make his students secure TNPCEE ranks. Naturally, Bala accepts the challenge and begins prepping his students for D-Day. The movie ends on a positive note with Balamurugan and his students emerging victorious.
